Adventuring as a family promotes healthy children and healthy, strong family bonds. A little advance planning will help make sure that your adventures are fun and successful.
While most of the time you won't need any special
equipment, it might be a fun activity for you and your child to
put together an Adventure Kit in a backpack, ready to go on a
moment's notice. Once you have your kit ready, it is just a
matter of picking your spot and going.
Check out the various preserves, parks and sanctuaries on Long Island, as well as as well as our field trip page for activities your child might enjoy. Google local preserves, National Wildlife Refuges and town, county and state parks. Look up the various nature centers on Long Island (and be daring, head off of the island for some wilderness fun!) and see what kind of activities, walks and events they are hosting. Finding an adventure has never been easier. You just need to be prepared! Click here for a list of suggested items for your child's Adventure Kit.
Try out the virtual coloring application on the National Audubon website. Kids can color a Wood Duck and learn more about them, then print out the results!
